What is Faraid?
Faraid is the Islamic law of inheritance. It sets fixed shares (furud) for certain heirs — such as a spouse, parents and daughters — with any remainder passing to residuary heirs (asabah), typically sons. Malaysia follows the Shafi'i school for faraid.
How accurate is this calculator?
It correctly handles the common heir set (spouse, sons, daughters, father, mother), including 'awl and radd adjustments. It does not model grandchildren, siblings, grandparents or rarer cases. Treat it as an educational estimate, and use JAKIM's e-Faraid or a syarie authority for a binding distribution.
What is distributed under Faraid?
Only the net estate — after funeral expenses, outstanding debts, and any bequest (wasiat, capped at one-third of the estate) — is divided by faraid. Enter that net figure as the estate value.
Why does a son receive twice a daughter's share?
Where sons and daughters inherit together as residuary heirs, the Qur'an (4:11) assigns a son twice a daughter's portion. This reflects the male's financial obligations under Islamic law; families may also use wasiat and hibah (gifts) during life to arrange matters differently.
