Travel Insurance
Short-term cover for a specific trip that pays for medical emergencies overseas, trip cancellation, lost baggage, and flight delays. It is bought per trip or as an annual multi-trip plan.
The most valuable part of travel insurance is overseas medical and emergency evacuation cover, which can run into hundreds of thousands of ringgit if you are hospitalised or need to be flown home — costs your local medical card may not cover abroad. Other common benefits include cancellation and curtailment, baggage loss or delay, flight delay compensation, and personal liability. A travel takaful version is available for Shariah-compliant cover.
For frequent travellers, an annual multi-trip plan is usually cheaper than buying single-trip policies repeatedly. Read the exclusions carefully — pre-existing conditions, high-risk activities, and travel against government advisories are commonly excluded, and some claims require you to buy the policy before departure. Keep all receipts and police or carrier reports, as claims for theft, loss, or delay almost always need documentary proof.
