Editorial Standards

How we research, write, and maintain the financial content on money.com.my.

Where our numbers come from

Every rate and figure on money.com.my comes from an official government source β€” not estimates, not third-party aggregators. Exchange rates and the Overnight Policy Rate (OPR) come from Bank Negara Malaysia. Inflation and cost-of-living data come from the Department of Statistics Malaysia. Fuel prices are the official weekly retail prices published by the Ministry of Finance.

Product information β€” fixed deposit rates, credit card terms, loan interest rates β€” is verified directly from each bank's own published disclosures. We record when each product was last checked. If product data is more than 90 days old, we display a notice on the page so you know to verify before acting.

How We Research Guides

Every guide on money.com.my is written to help readers make a specific financial decision β€” not just understand a topic. Before writing, we verify current rates, terms, and eligibility criteria against the original source: BNM publications, KWSP (EPF) circulars, LHDN (Inland Revenue Board) guidelines, or the financial institution's own disclosure documents.

We name specific products and rates. β€œSeveral banks offer competitive FD rates” is never acceptable β€” we cite the bank, the rate, the tenor, and the date we checked. Where rates or terms are likely to change (e.g., promotional FD rates), the guide links to our live data tools so readers can verify the current figure.

We include non-affiliated products β€” EPF, ASNB, KWSP voluntary contributions β€” when they are the right answer for the reader, even though they generate no revenue for money.com.my.

Affiliate Disclosure

money.com.my earns referral fees when readers apply for financial products through our links. This relationship is disclosed on every page where affiliate links appear, via a visible banner at the top of the guide.

Affiliate relationships do not influence our recommendations. Products are assessed on their published rates, fees, terms, and suitability for the specific use case the guide covers. We regularly recommend products that we do not earn from (including EPF, ASNB, and direct bank deposits) when they are the better option.

Fact-Checking

All guides display the date of publication and the date of last update. When a guide references a specific rate or figure, it is verified against the source at the time of writing. Guides that reference time-sensitive data (OPR, exchange rates, FD rates) link to our live tools rather than embedding static figures that may become stale.

Each guide carries a fact-check footer identifying the contributor and the date the content was last reviewed. We are building toward independent editorial review for all YMYL (Your Money, Your Life) content β€” guides will display reviewer attribution as this process is formalised.

Corrections and Updates

If a fact, rate, or recommendation in a guide becomes incorrect β€” due to a policy change, rate adjustment, or factual error β€” we update the guide and revise the β€œlast updated” date. Material corrections are noted within the guide body where the change affects the reader's decision.

If you spot an error or outdated information on any page, contact us at editor@money.com.my. We take accuracy seriously and will verify and correct promptly.

Use of AI Tools

money.com.my uses AI tools to assist with research, drafting, and data processing. All AI-assisted content is reviewed for accuracy against official sources before publication. AI is never used to generate financial recommendations β€” product assessments and editorial judgements are made based on published rates, terms, and verified data.

Our contributor pages disclose where AI tools are part of the editorial process. This transparency is a core part of our editorial standards.
